Fires in Kyiv one killed, and three injured due to massive Russian missile attack

Fires caused by Russian missile strike

A Russian ballistic missile attack struck Kyiv in the early hours of April 6, injuring at least three people and killing one, sparking multiple fires across the capital, according to local authorities.

Two of the injured, including a resident from the Darnytskyi District on the southeastern edge of Kyiv, were hospitalized. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the injuries and said rescue operations were ongoing throughout the morning.

The missile struck a non-residential facility, causing a severe fire and significant destruction to another nearby building. Three cars parked in the area also caught fire, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported. Fires were also reported in other districts of the city, including at a furniture shop and a warehouse. A five-story business center suffered “partial destruction” across several floors. Emergency crews have since extinguished all reported fires.

Explosions were first heard in Kyiv around 2:12 a.m., with another round reported around 5:00 a.m. Paramedics and emergency services responded quickly to multiple scenes across the city.

Poland's Armed Forces confirmed that they had mobilized jets and activated air defense systems in response to the broader missile attack across Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force earlier reported missiles approaching from the south of the country around 1:43 a.m.

Russia’s attacks continue to focus on civilian infrastructure, despite growing international pressure and peace negotiations. The assault comes amid U.S.-led efforts to secure a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine agreed on March 11 to a U.S.-proposed 30-day truce, but Moscow has refused to participate, instead continuing its widespread strikes.

President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian leaders have repeatedly accused Russia of using ceasefire talks to stall for time while continuing its campaign of destruction.

The number of injured in a Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih has risen to 74

The number of people injured in the Russian missile attack on Kryvyi Rih on April 4 has increased to 74, according to Serhii Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration.

In a post on Telegram, Lysak said that 37 victims remain hospitalized, including five children. As of earlier reports, 17 of those hospitalized were in serious condition.

The strike, which targeted a residential area, caused widespread destruction and killed at least 18 people, nine of whom were children. A playground was located near the impact site.

Lysak also noted that all civilians injured in a separate Russian drone strike on the city that same day are being treated on an outpatient basis.

Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown, has been a frequent target of Russian missile and drone attacks throughout the war. The April 4 attacks prompted renewed condemnation from Ukrainian officials, who say the continued targeting of civilian areas is further evidence that Russia is not serious about peace despite ongoing ceasefire talks.
