Russia attacked Kryvyi Rih with missiles, injured at least 9

On August 28, Russian forces launched a missile attack on Kryvyi Rih, a major city in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, injuring at least nine people, local authorities reported. The attack occurred at around 10:50 a.m. local time, striking a garage cooperative and damaging over 230 cars. The blast also shattered windows in nearby buildings, including a hotel, service station, administrative offices, and a vocational school.

Governor Serhii Lysak confirmed that four men aged 29, 41, 44, and 60 were hospitalized with shrapnel wounds, bruises, and other injuries. A 54-year-old woman was also injured but did not require hospitalization. Later updates added three more injured men aged 64, 29, and 18, with the older two requiring hospitalization, while a 46-year-old woman received medical help at the scene.

Kryvyi Rih, home to approximately 660,000 residents, has endured repeated attacks since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Just two days earlier, on August 26, an Iskander missile struck a hotel in the city, killing at least four people and injuring five, underscoring the continued threat to civilian areas in the region.

Russians make significant gains on Pokrovsk front

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian troops have made notable tactical gains on the Pokrovsk front, with reports suggesting Ukrainian forces have withdrawn from certain areas southeast of Pokrovsk. Geo-located footage released on August 27 confirms that Russian forces have advanced over two kilometers from their previous positions into northwestern Novohrodivka, specifically along Dubinina Street, indicating that they are now also holding positions in the central part of the town.

Additional footage suggests that Russian forces have made minor advances in southeastern Hrodivka, located east of Pokrovsk and northeast of Novohrodivka, and have captured Kalynove, situated further southeast of Pokrovsk and south of Novohrodivka. These advances reflect a broader effort by Russian troops to consolidate their positions and extend control in strategically important areas on the Pokrovsk front.
