Russian attacked Kryvyi Rih, killing 4, injuring 14, including children

The aftermath of the Russian missile strike

On January 17, a Russian missile strike targeted Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, killing four people and injuring 14, according to Governor Serhii Lysak.

Rescue operations concluded around 5 p.m. Five of the injured were hospitalized, while the remaining victims received treatment on-site.

Among the injured were four children: boys aged 9 and 12, a 1.5-year-old girl, and another 9-year-old girl who was hospitalized. Five individuals remain in hospital, three of them in serious condition.

The attack caused significant damage to four high-rise buildings, 17 houses, nearly 10 cars, and an educational institution.

The deceased included three women aged 61, 50, and 43, as well as a 20-year-old man, according to Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the city's military administration.

The Ukrainian Air Force had earlier detected a high-speed target, warning of a potential ballistic missile threat. Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky, frequently comes under Russian missile strikes.

With a population of approximately 660,000, Kryvyi Rih is the second-largest city in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, situated about 70 kilometers (40 miles) from the nearest front-line zone.

Putin signs a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Iran

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The agreement is modeled after a similar pact Putin signed with North Korea's Kim Jong-un in 2023. Such agreements typically involve commitments to political, economic, and military support between the signatory countries.

Under the North Korean agreement, military cooperation has already materialized, with North Korea deploying troops to Russia's Kursk Oblast.

However, according to Iran's Foreign Ministry, the agreement with Russia does not include provisions for military protection. Russian analysts suggest Iran is unlikely to deploy soldiers to the front, citing the nation's weakened position due to the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, setbacks for Hezbollah in Lebanon, and an ongoing energy crisis.

A man whose first wife was killed in the occupation of Kherson now loses his second wife in the Russian strike on Kryvyi Rih

On the afternoon of January 17, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack on Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, causing severe damage to residential buildings and an educational institution. The attack left four people dead and seven injured.

Among the victims was the second wife of Ihor, a local resident with three young children. Tragically, Ihor's first wife was also killed in 2022 in the then-occupied city of Kherson.

The family's latest heartbreak occurred as Ihor and his wife returned from shopping at the market. Debris from the missile struck her car, taking her life. The tragedy coincided with the birthday of Ihor's eldest son, adding another layer of grief to an already devastating loss.

This attack underscores the ongoing toll of the war on civilians, leaving families shattered and communities mourning.
