Russian drone attack on residential building in Sumy killed 9 and injured 13

Russian Drone Strike Kills Six in Sumy, Injures Nine

A Russian Shahed-type drone struck a residential building in the northeastern city of Sumy on Jan. 30, killing nine people and injuring at least thirteen, according to local authorities.

The attack occurred shortly after midnight, causing extensive damage between the building's sixth and seventh floors. Emergency workers pulled two bodies from the rubble around 7 a.m., with the death toll later rising to six, including two elderly couples.

A seven-year-old child and an 18-year-old man were among those injured, some of whom are in serious condition. The blast destroyed 12 balconies and caused structural damage.

Sumy, located less than 30 kilometers from the Russian border, has faced repeated attacks since Russia's full-scale invasion. On Jan. 29 alone, the Sumy Oblast Military Administration reported 106 strikes in the region.

During the same night, Russia launched 81 attacks and decoy drones across Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 37 drones, while 39 others vanished from radar before reaching their targets.

13 people, including two children,n were injured in the Russian attack on Kramatorsk

Russian forces attacked the city of Kramatorsk in Donetsk Oblast on Jan. 30, injuring at least 13 people, including an 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, according to Governor Vadym Filashkin.

Local authorities are assessing the damage, though the type of weapon used has not been disclosed.

Kramatorsk, located about 20 kilometers west of the front line, continues to face frequent Russian artillery and aerial strikes as part of Moscow's ongoing offensive in the region.

Russia plans to replenish forces with convicts and debtors in 2025

Russia plans to recruit at least 126,000 soldiers in 2025 from a "special contingent" comprising convicts, loan debtors, and individuals with legal troubles, according to Ukraine's Defence Intelligence.

Moscow intends to draft at least 10,000 soldiers from this group each month to replenish its losses in the war against Ukraine.

In total, Russia reportedly aims to call up at least 280,000 troops in 2025 to sustain its military operations.
