Russia targeted residential building in Sumy Oblast, at least 10 injured, including children
Russia targeted a multi-story residential building in Svesa village, Sumy Oblast, on Jan. 4, injuring at least 10 people, including two young children, the regional police reported. Two glide bombs destroyed one block of the building, leaving 15 apartments in ruins and shattering 700 windows. Ukraine's Emergency Service evacuated 14 residents, with search and rescue operations continuing into the evening.
Located near the Russian border, Svesa, home to about 6,100 pre-war residents, remains highly vulnerable to attacks. Sumy Oblast, bordering Russia's Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod regions, endures frequent daily assaults on its border communities, amplifying the challenges faced by its residents.

Over the first three days of 2025, Russia launched over 300 drones and 20 missiles, including ballistic ones, targeting Ukrainian cities, villages, and front-line settlements, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The attacks caused significant damage to residential buildings and infrastructure, alongside civilian casualties. Zelensky emphasized the need to bolster Ukraine's air defense system to counter these relentless strikes, calling for continuous replenishment of anti-missile stocks and expansion of mobile fire group capacities.
Acknowledging the contributions of Ukraine's partners, Zelensky announced upcoming meetings to strengthen air defense capabilities, including the next Ramstein-format summit of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group on Jan. 9. This marks the first such meeting since October 2024, when a leader-level summit was postponed due to U.S. President Joe Biden addressing Hurricane Milton's aftermath.
Russian drones attacked Kherson suburbs leaving four civilians injured
Four civilians were injured in Russian drone attacks on Jan. 4 in Antonivka, Kherson Oblast, according to the Kherson City Military Administration. A 43-year-old man sustained an open fracture and severe lacerations to his lower limbs from explosives dropped by a drone. Shortly after, a 65-year-old man suffered blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to his legs, while a 62-year-old woman was treated for a blast injury, shrapnel wounds, and a fractured shin. Details about the fourth injured individual have not yet been disclosed.
