A voice of Ukraine to the West
Russia targeted 103 settlements in past day
Russia targeted 103 settlements and 93 infrastructure facilities in Ukraine over the past day, according to a report from Ukraine’s Military Media Center on June 9.
In total, Russia attacked 10 oblasts (regions) in the southern, eastern, and northern parts of Ukraine.
In the Kharkiv Oblast, shelling in the Chuhuiv district resulted in the death of one man and injured two others, as reported by regional administration head Oleh Sinehubov. The attack also damaged a school, a shop, two houses, and a village council building.
An overnight strike injured a man in the village of Borova in the Izium region. Additionally, a woman was killed during an evening attack on June 8 in a settlement near Kupiansk. Housing and infrastructure in three other settlements in Kharkiv Oblast were damaged, though there were no casualties.
Russian forces targeted 16 areas in Kherson Oblast, including the city of Kherson, according to the regional military administration. These attacks resulted in one death and two injuries, and they also struck a residential area, damaging 13 houses.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast experienced 429 attacks across eight settlements near the frontline on June 8, according to the regional military administration. Russia launched 181 drone strikes, 13 multiple-launch rocket system attacks, and 235 artillery strikes. One residential building was hit, but fortunately, there were no civilian casualties.
On the evening of June 8, Russia attacked Pokrovske near Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, as reported by regional administrator Serhii Lysak. In the morning, Russia launched drones and artillery, hitting Nikopol and a nearby settlement. The strikes damaged a utility company, five houses, a garage, and a power line. There were no casualties, though Lysak mentioned that the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Russian forces launched new offensive operations in the northern part of Kharkiv Oblast on May 10, subjecting Kharkiv and several border settlements in the region to heavy attacks.
As Moscow opened this new front, Kyiv urged its allies to lift the ban on strikes inside Russia using Western weapons to prevent further attacks on Ukrainian territory.
In late May, the U.S. granted Ukraine permission to use some American weapons to target Russian soil across the border from both Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts.
Russian glide bomb attacked Kharkiv Oblast
Russian troops attacked the village of Khotimlia in Kharkiv Oblast on June 8, killing one person and injuring two others, according to the Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor's Office.
Khotimlia, located in the Chuhuiv district, had a pre-war population of around 1,350 people and is nearly 45 kilometers (28 miles) from the regional capital, Kharkiv.
The village was reportedly struck by two Russian guided aerial bombs around 3:45 p.m. local time. The attack damaged houses, cars, and a school, authorities said.
A man was killed, and two women, aged 35 and 43, were injured, according to the prosecutor.

Zelenskyy made a statement possibility of territorial concessions to Russia
The head of state referenced Führer Adolf Hitler, who also "overcame line after line."
Ukraine rejects any territorial concessions to Russia, arguing that this would only give the Kremlin a pause before starting a new war.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement during his address to the National Assembly of France.
"Can Putin win the war? No, because we do not have the right to lose. Can this war end at the current lines? No, because there are no lines for evil, neither 80 years ago nor now. If someone tries to draw temporary lines, it will only give a pause before a new war. Hitler overcame line after line, and Putin is doing the same today," Zelenskyy emphasized.
Zelenskyy is convinced that Ukraine can win the war started by Moscow, just as the Allied forces did during World War II.
"Can we win this battle? Absolutely, yes. We can. Ukraine. Ukraine, and therefore Europe. Europe, and therefore France. I am confident in this, just as France is. France believed in freedom when 'D-Day' had not yet happened, but that day of landing, like the day of European victory, was inevitable," the Ukrainian leader noted.
Two peope injured in Russia's June 8 drone attack in Kherson Oblast
Sure, I'll refine this text for American readers:
A Russian drone dropped an explosive on an ambulance in Kherson Oblast on June 8, injuring two people, according to Kherson Oblast Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.
"The driver suffered blast injuries," Prokudin reported. "Today, a medical assistant from the team also sought help at the hospital and was diagnosed with a concussion." Since Ukraine liberated Kherson and its surrounding areas on the western bank of the Dnipro River in November 2022, Russian troops have continued to regularly attack the territory.
Areas near the river, such as Bilozerka, remain especially vulnerable, as Russian troops are only about 10 kilometers (6 miles) away, keeping the village within range of most Russian artillery and drones.
On June 8, Russian shelling in Kherson Oblast killed one person and injured two others.
