Putin signs law on ratification of Russia-North Korea treaty
On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a "comprehensive strategic partnership" agreement with North Korea, establishing a new level of military and political collaboration. The treaty, initially signed during Putin’s visit to North Korea in June 2024, was ratified by Russia’s Federal Assembly shortly before its final approval.
The agreement includes commitments for both countries to provide "immediate military and other support" if either is subjected to an armed attack. Additionally, the countries agreed not to enter alliances with third nations that could compromise the other’s security, and to prevent the use of their territories to threaten each other’s sovereignty.
This partnership also emphasizes a shared goal of promoting a "multipolar world order," alongside enhancing cross-border cooperation, aligning the two nations more closely amid rising global tensions.
UK is preparing for different scenarios of Trump's policy towards Ukraine
The UK government is currently assessing potential strategies to support Ukraine in light of President-elect Donald Trump’s anticipated policy shifts regarding the conflict. UK Minister Jones reaffirmed that, despite changes in the U.S. administration, the United Kingdom remains committed to backing Ukraine and will continue providing robust support.
For 2024, the UK has allocated £3 billion in aid to Ukraine—a funding level set by the former Conservative government led by Rishi Sunak. Jones acknowledged the financial challenge of this commitment but emphasized its importance in the current geopolitical climate.
He further noted that UK officials are planning for various scenarios to ensure the country remains well-prepared, regardless of the direction the new U.S. administration may take. This approach is intended to position the UK as a reliable supporter of Ukraine’s defense and stability.
