Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia kills 3, injures 16
A Russian strike on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia on the morning of Oct. 21 killed three people and injured 16, according to local authorities. Governor Ivan Fedorov reported that two men, aged 44 and 42, were killed instantly, while a 44-year-old woman later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.
Fedorov said that 10 people remain hospitalized, with five in moderate condition and two in serious condition as of 7:20 p.m. local time. The strike damaged approximately 30 buildings in a residential area, and authorities are still assessing the full impact of the attack.
While Fedorov did not specify the weapon used, he noted that ballistic missile warnings were issued multiple times throughout the day. Zaporizhzhia, a regional center with a pre-war population of around 710,000, is frequently targeted by Russian strikes, as the surrounding oblast remains partially occupied by Russian forces.
Russians executed two Ukrainian POWs near Selydove, Donetsk Oblast
Russian forces executed two captured Ukrainian soldiers near the town of Selydove in Donetsk Oblast, prompting law enforcement authorities to launch an investigation, according to statements from the Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor General's Office.
Officials reported that the two servicemen were captured on Oct. 18 during a Russian assault on Ukrainian positions in the Pokrovsk district. The Russian troops forced the unarmed prisoners to lie face down, restraining them by pressing them to the ground with their feet. They then executed the POWs at point-blank range with automatic firearms.
The Prosecutor's Office emphasized that this act constitutes a severe breach of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a grave international crime under international law. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into violations of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder.
