Russian attack on residential nuilding in Kharkiv killed 3, injured 35
On the evening of October 30, Russia launched a devastating attack on a residential area in Kharkiv, killing a man and two boys, aged 12 and 15, and injuring at least 35 others, according to regional officials. Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that the assault was likely executed with a high-explosive FAB-500 bomb, which inflicted severe damage on a 9-story building, shattering the structure from the first to the fifth floor. Emergency responders rescued several injured individuals, including a child, from the debris, Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed.
Following the attack, President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Ukraine’s international partners to expedite their support, stressing that delayed decisions “mean dozens or even hundreds more Russian bombs used against Ukraine.” He appealed for unified and decisive action to stop Russia, emphasizing that these decisions impact Ukrainian lives directly.
This assault is part of an intensified Russian campaign targeting Kharkiv’s densely populated neighborhoods. Just days earlier, on October 28, Russian forces damaged the historic Derzhprom building, a UNESCO-protected site, followed by an overnight strike that claimed four more lives and destroyed several homes. For over two years, Kharkiv has endured unrelenting attacks, now escalating with increasingly destructive airstrikes aimed at residential areas.
Ukraine produces 20 Bohdana howitzers per month
President Volodymyr Zelensky recently announced that Ukraine now produces nearly 20 Bohdana self-propelled artillery units monthly, a critical advancement in Ukraine’s defense manufacturing. During a video address on October 30 following the Ukraine-Nordic Summit, Zelensky praised the “Danish model,” a unique partnership that allows Ukraine to attract financial backing from international allies specifically for defense production. Denmark, notably the first country to support Ukraine by directly purchasing arms from its defense industry, has enabled Kyiv to bolster its armament production despite limitations in its own defense budget.
The Bohdana artillery, a 2S22 truck-mounted self-propelled howitzer, features a 42-kilometer firing range and “shoot and scoot” capability, providing a tactical advantage by quickly moving out of position after firing, unlike stationary towed artillery. Zelensky highlighted continued developments, mentioning upcoming supplies like shells, equipment, and drones to support Ukraine’s ongoing defense needs, expressing gratitude to international supporters for this vital assistance.
Russia attacked Kyiv for the twentieth time in October: air defense shot down all drones
On the night of October 30-31, the Russian military launched an attack on Kyiv using drones. All drones were successfully intercepted and destroyed by air defense and electronic warfare forces.
It was noted that this attack marked the twentieth aerial assault on Kyiv in October. Similar to previous attacks, the Russian armed forces deployed UAVs in waves from multiple directions.
Throughout the night, air raid sirens were activated twice, lasting for two and a half hours. Fortunately, all Russian drones posing a threat to Kyiv were neutralized by the air defense systems and electronic warfare capabilities.
Following the attack, debris fell in the Podilskyi district, resulting in a fire in an open area. Additionally, windows in two two-story residential buildings and one administrative facility were damaged. Reports indicated that a high-voltage power line was also affected, but no casualties were reported.
The Administration further clarified that throughout October, only one day passed without an air raid warning in the capital, with residents experiencing sirens on average twice daily.
