Russia plans strikes on Ukrainian nuclear facilities before winter
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has warned that Russia is planning attacks on Ukraine's critical nuclear power infrastructure before winter, based on intelligence data.
Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Russian forces are targeting the open switchgear at nuclear power plants and key transmission substations, essential for the safe operation of nuclear facilities. According to Sybiha, damage to these sites could result in a serious nuclear incident with far-reaching global consequences. He noted that Ukrainian special services have shared this intelligence with international partners, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also been informed.
Sybiha emphasized that Russia is the only country in Europe to have seized a nuclear power plant, using it to blackmail the international community. He thanked the IAEA for expanding its missions to several Ukrainian energy facilities and urged faster implementation of agreed measures to safeguard them.
Ukraine's Victory Plan envisages NATO membership invitation for Kyiv and modern weapons supplies
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s upcoming "Victory Plan," which he intends to present to US President Joe Biden next week, includes key elements aimed at securing Ukraine's long-term security and integration into Western alliances.
According to sources cited by Bloomberg and reported by European Pravda, the plan envisions an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO and a commitment from the US to ensure continuous supplies of modern weapons. The plan also outlines a clear path for Ukraine's membership in the European Union, along with additional economic and security agreements.
These proposals aim to solidify Ukraine's position both militarily and politically, ensuring sustained Western support as the war with Russia continues.
UK intelligence assesses consequences of strike on ammunition depot in Toropets, Russia
A recent strike on a Russian ammunition depot in Toropets, Tver Oblast, is expected to disrupt Russian military operations, particularly affecting forces in Kursk Oblast. According to UK Defence Intelligence, the depot housed over 30,000 tonnes of ordnance and was one of the largest in Russia.
The depot's destruction is attributed to poor ammunition storage practices, despite upgrades in 2018 aimed at preventing incidents. A chain reaction of detonations occurred following a Ukrainian drone strike, leading to significant losses of ordnance.
The intelligence report highlights Russia's ongoing difficulties in countering Ukrainian deep strike operations, despite claims of intercepting more than 50 UAVs during the attack. The destruction of this depot is likely to have a considerable impact on Russian ground operations in the region.
